Updating Your Drapes Has Never Been EasierIf you want to give your room a new look, you may want to try giving your drapes a new look. The good news is that updating your drapes may be as quick and easy as taking a trip to your local craft store. Option 1: One of the easiest ways to spruce up old drapes is to use ribbon. It comes in a variety of designs, colors and styles. As an example, you can take a nice wide, brightly colored ribbon and run it across either the top or bottom of drape. Or, you can take several narrower strands to create a ribbed effect. Another easy idea is to cut ribbons and simply hang them from the top of your drapes. These are especially fun in a kid's room, adding a whimsical touch that your child will love. Option 2. Use tassels to dress up your drapes. Either put them along the top or hang them from the corners of a patterned curtain to add a beautiful accent. But make sure to keep it simple. Busy patterns may not lend themselves to too many extra touches. One way to work around this is to put a single tassel on just the bottom corners. This will add a nice touch without being overbearing. Tassels can also dress up simple curtains, adding a touch of class to any room. Using tassels as curtain ties will complete the look. Option 3. Transform your old, worn out drapes by using new, updated fabric to cover them. This lets you take advantage of some of the beautiful fabrics out there. And, best of all, you can use the drapes you currently have, so there's no need to start from the beginning. Since you just have to cover one side, you save time and money. Simple cut the new fabric to the proper dimensions and sew it to the edges of the existing panel. Why, its like "refinishing" you drapes. In the end, you'll have a great set of lined drapes, without the hassle of making them from scratch. Option 4. Use your old drapes in a new way. This allows you to recycle your existing ones, and saves you the money of having to buy a new pair. Create a new valance for your kitchen by trimming the bottom of your panels. You'll end up with a new set of shorter curtains and a new valance to match. Or, take a pair of retired drapes and convert them into a fabric shower curtain. Old drapes can even take on new life as floor cushions or throw pillow. And if you decide you want to go in a totally different direction, feel free to give your room a lift with new drapes. If finding lined drapes is too hard, just get a cheaper curtain and attach it as the lining. Or purchase some fabric from your local craft store and refer back to Option 3 for directions on how to add it to your new drapes. New drapes can bring new life to any room in your home. Whether you have some fun with your existing drapes or opt for an entirely new style, your window can give your room a brand new look. |
